The 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers moved from Battlesbury Barracks, Warminster to Barrosa Barracks, Deilinghofen, Federal Republic of Germany during September 1974 to relieve 1 R IRISH in role as a Mechanised Infantry Battalion in 6 Armoured Brigade.

The Battalion’s families lived mainly in married quarters in the nearby towns of Hemer and Iserlohn.
