5(V) R IRISH attended Annual Camp at STANTA (Stanford Training Area), near Thetford, Norfolk, for two weeks in September 1985.
General “Bala” Bredin greatly honoured 5(V) R IRISH by choosing to spend his last few hours as Colonel of The Regiment with them. On his arrival, he took the salute as the battalion, led by the Band and Pipers, marched into camp at the end of the patrol exercise. That evening he was entertained by the Warrant Officers and Sergeants before being dined out by the Officers. The following morning he visited the Echelon and stores before joining the rest of the battalion on the ranges. Following an address to the battalion he was chaired to his car.
