The British ‘Slave Trade Act’ received Royal Assent on 25 March 1807. The Act abolished the slave trade in the British Empire, in particular the slave trade across the Atlantic, but it did not abolish slavery itself. The United States passed the ‘Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves’ on 1 January 1808.
