Following the Accession of His Majesty King Charles III and the requirement to change the crowns on all Regimental badges, buttons, ranks and other items of iconography, the Regimental Council took the decision to introduce a new Regimental Crest that better captures the history and heritage of The Royal Irish Regiment.

The crest, which now bears the Tudor Crown, also incorporates a scroll bearing the Regimental motto “Faugh a Ballagh,” which was also the motto of The Royal Irish Fusiliers and The Royal Irish Rangers; The Inniskilling Castle and Scroll, the ancient device awarded to Tiffin’s Regiment in recognition of their action in the relief of Crom Castle in 1689; and the Rifle Horn recognising our antecedents The Royal Irish and later The Royal Ulster Rifles. The 12-string Maid of Erin Harp, as worn by The Ulster Defence Regiment, is retained albeit with the changes to the cap-badge introduced in 2009.
