In July 1992, shortly after the formation of The Royal Irish Regiment, the 4th (Home Service) Battalion entered a shooting team at Bisley and were successful in becoming the Regular Army Major Unit Shooting Champions. Thus began a period of almost two decades during which The Royal Irish Regiment dominated Army Shooting at Bisley.
