The Stand of Colours was presented to the 5th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers by HRH Princess Alice Duchess of Gloucester at St Patrick’s Barracks, Ballymena.
These Colours were eventually laid up in St Mark’s Parish Church Armagh, on 17 November 2002, by The Royal Irish Rangers, the TA battalion of The Royal Irish Regiment in whose safekeeping the Colours had remained since 5 (V) R IRISH had merged with 4 (V) R IRISH to form 4/5 RANGERS (retitled RANGERS in 2007). Armagh had been 5(V) R IRISH’s home town when Battalion Headquarters was located in the Territorial Army Centre beside the grounds of St Mark’s before 5 (V) R IRISH moved to Hydebank, Belfast. The Colours hang beside those of the 5th Battalion The Royal Irish Fusiliers.
